Comprehensive Eye Examinations

St. Francis Ophthalmology Group

Drs. John S. McNamara & Barry A. McNamara Sr., Ophthalmologists

Patients that visit our office leave knowing that they have had a thorough eye examination that included:

  • Pupil dilation- performed to allow for a thorough retinal examination
  • Retinal inspection- is conducted to view if there are any detachments, tumors, degeneration or other medical disorders, and if retinal photography should be performed
  • Glaucoma test- is performed to measure your eye pressure
  • Astigmatism tests- three different tests are performed, which include evaluations of one's distance, middle (computer), and reading vision
  • Eye muscle balance measurement- conducted to determine if it is the cause of eyestrain, lowered depth perception, poor reading skills and headaches
  • Visual acuities & Optical accommodation- are thoroughly measured and tested to check your eyes' ability to focus from distant to near vision, and vice versa
  • Depth perception & color vision- are both evaluated
  • Cataracts- a complete inspection is carefully performed
  • Blood pressure check- the earliest signs of hypertension often occur in the eye
  • Cornea- is examined through a biomicroscope and is measured with a computerized keratometer
  • Visual fields- one's peripheral vision is analyzed using optical equipment that is highly accurate in spotting early signs of glaucoma, eye diseases, and other neurological disorders
  • Eyewear prescription- is determined using not only the traditional phoropter examination, but also through the use of a retinoscope and a computerized auto-refractor, thus, ensuring total accuracy. The auto-refractor provides expert information on determining your prescription without asking you to choose between "lens one" and "lens two."
  • Consultation- the doctor will discuss the results of your tests thoroughly
